COMPOSITION

Each ml contains 2mg Homatropine Methylbromide

ACTION

Buscomin® contains Homatropine Methylbromide which is an antimuscarinic agent. It inhibits the

action of acetylcholine on autonomic effectors innervated by postganglionic cholinergic nerves as well as on smooth muscles that lack cholinergic innervation. It has potent antispasmodic effect and minimal anticholinergic side effects.

INDICATIONS

Buscomin® is indicated in the treatment of gastro-intestinal spasm and used adjunctively in the treatment of peptic ulcer.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Doses according to age:

Up to 3 months    –     2 – 4 Drops   3 – 4 times daily

3 – 6 months   –    4 – 6 Drops    3 – 4 times daily

6 – 12 months –    6 –9 Drops    3 – 4 times daily

N.B. Doses must be taken 10 – 15 minutes before feeding.

 

SIDE EFFECTS

These include thirst, dilation of pupils and loss of accommodation following prolonged use. It may also lead to cardiovascular effects such as bradycardia followed by relaxed tachycardia with palpitation. High doses may result in urinary urgency, difficulty and retention, constipation due to reduction in gut motility may also occur.

CONTRAINDICATION

Myasthenia  gravis, closed or narrrow angle glaucoma.

INTERACTION

Co-administration with other antimuscarinic drugs such as atropine, hyoscine, antihistamines and tricyclic antidepressants may potentiate the effects of homatropine.
